  1. Default I-50 questions from NZer

We are planning a trip across the States next year, probably start early May from San Francisco and take up to 8 weeks to get to the East coast.
I have lots of questions but I will start with these -
    1. We were thinking of driving I-50 but also want to see the Grand Canyon. Is that a feasible diversion? How long would it take. Or maybe the scenery on I-50 would be as good?
    2. Does anyone know anything about the car hire company Adventures on Wheels? Their deals look pretty good.

    Sally, Welcome to the Forum!

I am guessing you mean US-Hwy 50? In the USA "I" usually is a the abbreviation for Interstate Highway and there is no Interstate 50.

Eight weeks is a great length of trip for a cross country journey. US-50 does travel through some gorgeous country, but it wouldn't necessarily be my choice for the entire route.

At I-70 I would suggest heading south on US-89 and swing by Bryce, Cedar Breaks and Zion on your way to the Grand Canyon and then you could use US-191 to zing by Arches NP on the way back to US-50

Their prices seem pretty good, but we are not familiar with their operation.

  3. Default Thanks Mark

I can't believe how quickly you replied. Thankyou. I'll sit down with the map and work out just where these places are. I'm sure there will be lots more I will want to know but your site seems to anticipate most of my needs.

In 8 weeks you can do a lot of criss-crossing around. You won't need to limit yourself to one stretch of road.

Once you get some more specific things nailed down, it will be fun to helpy ou plan your trip. For some ideas, browse these forums and read through some of the articles here. They should give you some great ideas.

  5. Default San Francisco to Florida via where?

We are middle aged New Zealanders planning a 2 month road trip for May/June from San Francisco to Newark. Original plan was to mostly follow US50 and the forum has already been helpful about that. Now a long lost cousin in Florida (Boca Raton) has asked us to stay, so we are planning a major diversion.
I am thinking about taking several weeks to make a (sort of) circular trip of best sights in Sierra Nevada and Rockies then turning South East from somewhere around Colorado Springs. I think I have the mountain section planned (thanks guys) but now need some advice on the Colorado to Florida part. We like scenery and history. Not so keen on big cities or busy roads. No hurry either, we could take a couple of weeks for this bit. All suggestions gratefully received.
