  1. Default San Francisco, CA to Seattle, WA

Hello! My husband and I are moving to Seattle at the end of February. We will drive from San Francisco and we have heard that the scenic drive is amazing. Do you have any suggestions about where to stop and how long it may take to get there? We have a total of 4-5 days but I do not think it will take that long. Thank you! Avit

Avit, Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum!

If you stay on the coast the entire way, it will be about 1200 miles (maybe longer -- there is a lot of zig-zagging) the shortest distance is about 800 miles by Interstate. It is a gorgeous route and there are scores of posts about trips fellow roadtrippers have made. Be sure to look at the bottom of this page for links to some of those posts.

It will be of no suprise to anyone who has read this board, that one of my favorite inns in North America is located on the route. Stanford Inn is located in Mendocino.

Four to five days would be just about perfect, and if you really stay on the coast for the entire trip, it will take you at least that long. If you have time, I would stop at every Oregon State park as you go north -- they are all different and they are all awesome. I recently reviewed a book -- Backroads of Oregon-- that is excellent for uncovering some really cool places in Oregon --

When you get to Washington, be sure to look at some of Moderator Judy's posts about places to visit -- her knowledge of local road lore is superb. Here is one of those amazing posts.

    Happy Planning,

    Mark
