  1. Default Atlanta to the Jersey shore ideas

Ok, with my CC trip ideas simmering on the back burner I've got to finally deal with visiting some family in SC. I figure we dead-head it straight down in 10-11 hours, then pay our dues with the family for a couple of days, and then jump down to Atlanta to visit some friends.

I'm looking for some return trip ideas; for sure I want to break the Atlanta to NJ trip into at least 1 night, by takeing the coastal route up through the Chesapeake bay bridge/tunnel, and then the Cape May/Lewis ferry. Besides Colonial Williamsburg (that'll be a big hit with the kids...) and Busch Gardens, what other distractions might some of you folks recomend on the way? BTW we live at the Jersey Shore so it is not a destination. Been there, done that, paid the mortagage...

First a digression -- since it is almost in your backyard... Did you know that you can sleep over-night on the USS New Jersey? Let's see I would bet that you are going to use I-20 and I-26 for your approach to the coastal route? If so, there is a pretty cool place to stop over-night just to the south of I-26 on I-95 -- The Santee State Park has some 2-bedroom cabins located right on Lake Marion --

    Happy Planning!

    Default A Few More Options

Just a quick couple of suggestions for things the kids might enjoy. If you come the way Mark has suggested, also consider a stop at Old Santee Canal State Park in Moncks Corner, SC. They have a very nice little visitor's center, room for the kids to run, and they rent canoes for $3 the half hour so you can explore the old canal. On the Delmarva Peninsula, be sure to head for the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge home to the famous wild ponies, and on the way in, stop at NASA's Wallops Island Facility.
