Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

The routes you'll be using are pretty well travelled and oft discussed in these forums, so be sure to use the search function on the right of the toolbar at the top of this thread for more ideas. But basically, LA to the Grand Canyon is I-15 and I-40, with the option of backroading on portions of the old Mother Road. From the Grand Canyon, It's back west on I-40 and then US-93 across Hoover Dam into Vegas. For the final jaunt into San Francisco, if you're going to try to do it in a single day, then loop around the mountains on I-15, CA-58 and I-5, but if you can spend a few days getting there then look at coming up through Death Valley and cross the Sierra Nevadas in Yosemite National Park. But most importantly, enjoy your bride and your new life together.

I would really try and get a cabing at Bright Angel of you can we stayed in a rim cabin last September and the views at dawn and dusk unbelievable. The cost is very reasonable and the sight is something that will stay with you forever.

In addition to what Lillibell said, make your reservation for the Grand Canyon TODAY. I got lucky with 3 weeks out from my trip to the Grand Canyon I decided to stay inside the park----there were a TOTAL of 12 rooms available inside the entire park covering ALL the possible places to stay within the park (I got a non-airconditioned room at Yavapai for $96 a night). In addition to the Bright Angel you might also be interested in staying at the Phantom Ranch which I believe is the only place to stay at the bottom of the canyon.

    Hi!

My fiance and I just returned from our 5 week honeymoon around the United States. If you're planning on going to the Grand Canyon, we went to the South Rim and stayed at Mather Campground ($23/day) and had no problem getting a site the day we arrived which was a Saturday in July. They had tons of open sites. Don't listen to everyone when they say you need to make reservations weeks/months in advance. Even when we went to Yellowstone a few of the campgrounds had sites while others were full. I made my reservations in May for Yellowstone. We had no problem getting campsites throughout our trip. And if you plan on going to a lot of National Parks (we hit 10) buy the National Parks Pass ($50). Not all National Parks have entrance fees, but you do get your money's worth from those that do. Good luck and enjoy every minute! Dan and I wish we could go back out on the road and see more!
