Default 2 days near bay area

    Hi all,
We(me & my husband) are planning to go out for the weekend(28th-29th). We can start on Fri eve, if necessary.
I initially wanted to go to Sacramento, but looks like the weather is not with me.
200 mile radius should be good enough. If there is a place to hike, good, but just camping will also be fine. I am running out of places to see at this time of the year.
If anyone has any new ideas, pls help me out.
I am not interested in vineyards, museums for now.

    thanks in advance,
    Cool

    Default Some Bay Area Options

Within 5 hours or 200 or so miles of San Francisco are a number of great weekend camping and hiking locations. All of the following can be gotten to in an evening's drive, leaving you all day Saturday and most of Sunday to enjoy your surroundings.

    Lake Tahoe
    Yosemite National Park
    Big Sur
    Pinnacles National Monument
    Lassen Volcanic National Park
Any number of State Parks around Mendocino on the northern coast

There's something in almost every direction, so you ought to be able to find one destination where the weather will be to your liking.

I would go to Columbia -- the state park is pretty fun and is a nice change of pace. It is about 140 miles from San Francisco. For hiking close in -- I would go to the Marin headlands -- I have never seen that campground full and it is in a place that until a few years ago was impossible to gain access.
Another state park I would check out -- would be Sugarloaf Ridge -- it might be a little damp with this year's record rainfall -- but it is a gorgeous place for hiking.

    AZBuck,
I forgot to mention the places we've already been. We've covered all the 5 places you have mentioned. Looks like the whole of Mendocino area is expecting rain thru the weekend. In fact, in bay area as well :(

    Mark,
Sugarloaf seems pretty interesting. But again, its expecting rain.

Any place south of bay area? Any off beat place? Well! that has to be within a 2wd's reach..
    Help pls...
