Default La Paz Ferry -- The Real Story?

I am curious if anyone has current information about the frequency of ferry service between Topolobampo, Sinaloa and Pichilingue, BCS near La Paz (across the Sea of Cortez) in Mexico. It is my understanding that for a while there was daily service, but now I think it is more sporadic than that. Same question between Pichilingue and Mazatlán, Sinaloa. My interest would be for passage during the second week of March, 2006.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Default Baja Ferries website

    Mark,

After some research on the net, the only information I found regarding the schedule of the ferries in that area was on the Baja Ferries website. You probably already knew about that site, but did you knnow there is an inquiry form on it where you can ask for information? They probably can help you better than anyone else.

    Good Luck!
    Gen

Ps-I'm so jealous I've always wanted to visit Baja:-)

I just called Baja Ferries toll free number this morning and spoke to a very English speaking gentleman who tells me the ferry is not in operation until the beginning of May. It is being maintained in Italy I believe he said. I have been trying to find other transportation by water from Topolobampo to La Paz but so far have not. I too am making the trip with my husband around mid March. We have already booked our hotels in Chihuahua, Posada Barrancas and El Fuerte along the Copper Canyon train route. So it was very disappointing to find out this morning that we don't have a ferry to get to Baja now. Aero California has okay rates from Topolobampa to La Paz, but now we have to spend even more on a hotel for that night ... staying on the ferry would have been much more economical for the night, while we traveled to Baja. If ANYONE out there knows of another means of transportation by sea, please respond ASAP !! Thanks, Ginger

Ginger, this is very timely info -- what number did you use? Did the man mention whether or not the passage from Mazatlán was affected too?

    Thanks,

    Mark
