Default RoadTrip Beginners Need Some Help

    Hey,
I'm an 18 year old high school senior who's planning a trip for myself and a good friend this summer break. I'm simply asking for any useful information. Though I've learned much from this site, it's very broad, and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed/lost.
WHY-We're taking this trip to see our country's beautiful sites, have some freedom this summer, and a lot of fun along the way.
STYLE-We don't care if we don't shower everyday (sorry ladies), and spontaneous trip is more to our liking. We've toyed with the idea of camping or sleeping in the car, but an occasional cheap motel would be nice too.
BUDGET-Whatever we can save from now until then. We have some money saved up, but we don't want to eat to much into our savings for college, so the cheaper the better. We would really like to rough it this trip. Our goal was to just be a couple of bums with a lot of stories to tell.
We're starting in central Indiana and planning to head west, as of now, but to where, we don't know, or care. We'll probably be gone around ten days at the most, maybe two weeks. If anyone has any info on scenic trips, beautiful sights, places that changed your life, cheap travel ideas, camping ideas, food tips, clothing tips...etc, we would be more than grateful.
    Thank you so much.
    Derrick

Welcome to the Forum! I wonder what you have been looking at with respect to to the it's very broad, issue -- this site is full of detail, detail, detail. One of our biggest problems as editors is figuring out the best ways to drill down to the mother lode of all of that trip detail.

It would help us if we knew how long you have planned for this adventure escape.

Look at the tips in the Art of the Cheap Roadtrip article and also READ the tips in the Cheap RoadTrips Topic. Select "Beginning" on the display options to really get to the meat of the detail.

Derrick, you will find all of that here. Look at the links for similar threads on the bottom of this page and look at the planning page. You will find that the roadtrippers in this community will be happy to share detailed ideas, but you will get the best responses if you narrow the query a little and do some of the planning work yourself.
