    Default Parking in NYC

    Hi,

I haven't made any definite plans on this matter yet, as I would like to find out some information first... Basically, I am planning to drive a used car (haven't bought one yet) from California to New York and would like to leave it there for 1-2 months. I will be flying to Europe and then returning to pick it up where I will need it again.

All I really need to know is, is there anywhere (inexpensive and safe) where I can leave the car for the time while I'm away. I assume airport parking will be very expensive... While I'm on the subject, in NYC... what is there to see in the space of a few days. I've been there once a long time ago but dont recall any of it. What are the must-see's and must-do's in New York and the surrounding area?

    Thanks for the help.

It has been a while since you have been around, so welcome back!

Car parking in NYC is expensive, most residents do the car shuffle routine (moving the car from one side of the street to the other based upon the signage of the day). But there are interior car parks that are safe and secure. But it has been too many years since I did it to have any information about that.

What I would suggest is to look into one of the car par services in New Jersey -- rates are probably lower and they offer shuttles to most airports.

Hmm, for the "average tourist" highlights of NYC I would have to say Liberty and Ellis Islands via ferry, Wall Street (on weekdays anyway), Empire State Building observation deck, Rockefeller Center and the NBC studio tour, Times Square with shopping, Wollman Rink and Central Park, South Street Seaport, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and/or Museum of Modern Art, maybe meals and drinks at Coyote Ugly or Hogs-N-Hieffers (there's also a new Hard Rock in Times Square), take in a Broadway show if you have the time and the cash!

    Default car garages

To give you an idea of the costs --- This summer I parked in a car garage (218 & Park Terrace) with 24 hr security. It was about $15.00 per day.

Thanks a lot for the replies! I will have to think about whether or not this is the best solution.. Parking for more than a few weeks doesn't seem to be very econmical..

I will defintely include a stop in NYC.. but may leave the car at a friend's house in Boston or nearby. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions soon!
