Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, Zion, Bryce to name a few more!

  4. Default Parties

You'll find great night life in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas all -- anything and everything you're looking for, legal or not. I vigorously suggest, however, you confine yourselves to the legal varieties... Bob

Hadn't really considered San Diego but will look into it now.

  6. Default Gaslamp District

One particularly popular area is the Gaslamp District, downtown (San Diego). It's a big draw for the tourists, I know. Maybe we'll get some other input from the locals!

Plus, here is an article about Bazaar del Mundo which can be found in Old Town San Diego

I would surely recommend Hwy 1 alond the CA coast. You can enjoy a part of it(Big Sur coastline) on your way to LA.
Yosemite is a hiker's paradise, but if you just want to drive by, its fine too. Tall granite mountains, lots of waterfalls, beautiful meadows..Spring is the right time to be there.
You can go rafting in the American river(maybe an hr drive, north of SFO). Depending on the winter snowpack, chk the rapid levels.
Although I have not done it there, skydiving in Monterey is good(when you dive down, you can have a bird's eye view of the ocean).

Monterey has an amazing aquarium and some beautiful beaches.

Depending on what you want to see, you can include Death Valley NP, Sequoia & Kings NP.

I am sure you will enjoy CA every bit.

    Cool

Default back from california road trip

    hi
I got back from a wonderful roadtrip in CA out of texas..
i strongly recommend san francisco..take a cruise on the bay and to alcatraz...it's great.
yosemite is breathtaking as well...we drove there in august coming from east, from death valley...we crossed the park via tioga pass which is closed most of the year due to snow.
if you cross yosemite and end up passing mariposa...it's a nice little town outside the park..check the red fox, a good resturant with a huge selection and very reasonable prices

just drop more questions if you need advise
i did receive very good tips from judy and the forum before i left.
    enjoy!

Heading out of San Fran, going east you would go through Sacramento, California's capital. Next going east would be Reno and Lake Tahoe. Beautiful places. There are alternatives to get to Las Vegas: Go down highway 395 (my favorite) because of the scenery. Scenery would include the highest peak in the lower 48 states, Mt. Whitney, and lots of beautiful lakes, like Topaz lake in western Nevada, the unusual Mono Lake in California, Lake Crowley and Convict. Or you could go down highway 95 south from Carson City. It goes down from there on the western side of Nevada and goes through some old towns and ghost towns in Nevada. Some pretty wide open country, with a lot of real estate to see.
A stop in Yosemite would in my mind be a "must." The pronunciation is:
    Yo-sem-a-tea. I think it's an Indian word.
Whatever route you take, enjoy your drive. Take lots of water and a cell phone.
