    Default road trip California

    Hi there!
I am trying to organize my first road trip to California...I am Italian and just recently moved to Texas.

The plan was to fly to vegas, spend a couple of days there and then drive to LA and maybe San Diego. How do you see this in 10 days? Too much driving?

Some guys suggest to skip vegas and fly to san diego and drive all the way up to SF..the coast is apparently gorgeous!
I a kind of like this second option...

    thanks

10 Days is more than enough for most of california, since a straight through drive takes a day and a few hours, and stopping to see some sights takes maybe 3-4 days, so you got plenty of time to adventure around.

Why skip vegas? See some shows, gamble a bit if thats your thing, and walk down the strip (i'd say drive, but I hear the traffic can be a little awful at night).

Default death valley from vegas to SF

mapquest shows the way from vegas to SF driving south and then west...i thought of going the other way..over the death valley and i think there is a national park on the other side of the canyon..

Welcome to the Forum -- Actually trying to see everything cool in California is impossible. If one were to drive 2 days a week (a full weekend) for 100 years, one could only drive about 60% of the roads in California. That being said, 10 days will allow you to see some of the cool stuff.

RTA is based in Las Vegas, so we have hundreds of days of suggestions to see here. A few of those ideas are here.

As far as your question about routes through Death Valley and national parks to the west, it really depends on the time of the year. But there is information here about routes to Sequoia and here to Yosemite.

Vegas is a very cool place and worth seeing. However, you could also easily fill 10 days with California and only see a small portion of what that state offers.

Heck, I could spend 10 days just moseying along the coast and poking my nose in every little hide-away. Add in things to do in the major cities, and further inland....you could spend 10 months in this state, easily.

How you want to do your trip depends on what your priorities are. You can do Vegas and California, you can do just California, or you can do Vegas and the wondrous sights near Vegas in Arizona and Utah. All of these would be great trips.

What are YOUR priorities? What do you want to see and do the most?

Don't do it! Vegas is so much more than I ever imagined - that's why it's part of my second roadtrip through the USA again, as the place truly is breathtaking and I know it'll blow my girlfriend away!
