ideas for Gainesville Florida up the coast to NYC

Hi,

I will be driving north my new used Camry 2002 with a friend. We leave Gainseville July 5 and hope to be back in NYC by the following weekend (July 9). We'd love to sort thru many ideas for stand-out places to stop along the coast (eg. Savanah, Charleston, and up) == beautiful places to see, to swim, to eat, to sleep == and pick one or two. thanks!

I like the new, used Camry. US-17 is a geat route, unfortunately, it has been over tend years since I did it and hopefully you will hear from someone who is slightly more current. One book I can suggest is actually the guide book to I-95 which will be inland from the coast, but the authors have done a really great job finding cool stuff along that route too.
