From Cleveland---want to go on ROUTE 66 and detour to Memphis and Vegas

Hi all--

My husband and I have 3 weeks to travel mid-July to early August. We live in Cleveland and want to travel route 66. I want to go to Memphis, TN. Is that a huge detour??? What about a detour to Las Vegas?

Am I out of my mind? Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated!

Um. How far west are you planning to go on US-route 66? We have gathered the best web resources we could find on traveling on Rte 66 and put them on this page. In addition, there are some great road trip books on this famous route, one we like is this one. As far as detours go, neither Memphis nor Las Vegas are that large a departure from the route, although Las Vegas is certainly an easier diversion.
