Default San Diego to Salt Lake city

    Hi everyone
My name is Daniel and I live in Brazil. I will attend a conference in San Diego in december 15 and then we are planning to travel to Salt Lake city to assist a concert. There will be 3 drivers switching places until Salt Lake City, and we are planning to do this distance in less than 20 hrs. Is it possible? We never drove before in US. I was wondering if there will be snow in the road (I-15). Is there any danger that we should know?
We were also planning to visit the canyons, but what are worriyng us now is the possibility of driving in the snow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
    Daniel

    ps: sorry for my English

    Default Should be OK

If the roads are relatively dry and free of snow you should be able to cover that distance in about 15 hours. Enough snow to close I-15 in December is rare, but it will be there. You should carry chains and check out our winter driving tips.

    Your English is fine.

Thanks a lot for your answer, Mark
We were planning to leave San Diego at noon, and drive non-stop until Salt Lake City. Do you think it is safe to drive overnight through the I-15? Is there any kind of assault there? Another possibility is to sleep in Vegas, starts the trip early in the morning in order to reach Salt Lake City around 15:00pm (the concert begins at 19pm).
Sorry to bother you with these questions, but it is quite difficult to plan such a roadtrip when you are so far way and never before in US (Ilive in southern Brazil!)
    Thanks again
    Daniel

  4. Default Safe Roads

Daniel, you'll find motor travel, day or night, in the United States to be as safe as anywhere else. I've never heard of any problem with I-15 -- or any other specific stretch of U.S. highway. You'll find American travelers to be mostly friendly and helpful. With three of you to drive, there is no problem in driving this distance non-stop (except for gas and short rest/food stops). Bob

    Default Bandits?

Sometimes we hear fear expressed when traveling certain routes in the United States but those perceptions of danger are usually based upon the apperance or ethnic background of the drivers when driving through certain places. For instance, it wasn't that long ago that long-haired drivers were aware of certain attitudes among Texas Rangers, likewise racial profiling is a reality in certain residential neighborhoods, but we have never heard of any related issue on ANY interstate or other major highway.

There is no chance of an assault by any human along I-15. You could experience a challenge of hitting a deer or someother critter, but bandits will not be a part of your American experience.
