    Default Roadtrip CA to MA

Taking a Roadtrip from Southern CA to MA. The first place we want to stop to see friends is Denver. Where on earth does one stop between LA & Denver. Richfield, Utah seems like the best place distance wise but not a very desireable place to stop. Should we only go to Vegas and do more driving on Day 2?

Also, the Denver to Des Moines haul is pretty long.... any suggestions here?

  2. Default Cedar City

I don't remember much about Richfield, but I like Cedar City a lot -- it is a nice little city in a great setting with lots of choices for food and lodging. Las Vegas WOULD be a fun place to spend the night, though, but the temptation would be to stay out too late -- better resist that! :) Driving time alone from Las Vegas to Denver is almost 12 hours, so that'd be a REALLY long day.

Denver to Des Moines is about 9 hours -- does that seem like too much for one day? (Would be for some, but not for others, just depends on what you are comfortable with). You could always stop at Lincoln or Omaha instead, for a shorter day. That stretch of I-80 has some Oregon Trail/Pony Express-type stops, if you are into that sort of fun. Bob

Let's see, your probable route takes you past and through some of the most gorgeous scenery on earth. Las Vegas has plenty to recommend it, so does St. George (Zion NP), Cedar City (Cedar Breaks), Moab (Arches), Grand Junction (Colorado Nat Monument), not to mention Glenwood Springs, Vail and Idaho Springs , (well actually, that last one is a little funky, but still a fun place to stop overnight).

How much time can you spend on the leg between LA and Denver?
