Memphis to Nashville - any good backroads?
Hey, folks!
My husband and I are going to ride (pleasure trip) from Memphis to Nashville sometime this summer and stay a nite somewhere. Anyone familiar with the area who can recommend interesting backroads instead of going I-40?
Thanks in advance.

Natchez Parkway
If it were me, I would use the Natchez Trace Parkway and then angle west on US-64. It has been too long since I was down there, so I don't remember anything in particular about the route, but I am sure some of our local posters will weigh in on this one. Very pretty country!
While in Memphis, be sure to stroll along Beale Street and check out Lansky's Men's Shop -- trust me you will understand when you get there.
Oops... obviously you need to reverse my suggestion -- since you are starting in Memphis...

The Clear Choice
The Editor is right. His suggested route is the clear choice for the trip you're looking to make. The Natchez Trace is especially bike friendly due to the lack of competing traffic and absence of intersecting side roads. I'll just add that since you have the time, it's worth it to take a short side trip to Shiloh NMP. They have a visitor's center that lays out the battle at least as well as is done in Gettysburg. It was here, after hearing the explanation as to how the Confederate forces, although numerically superior, lost to the Union forces under Grant that I KNEW I was in the south when a young voice piped up "Daddy, how could WE have lost?"

I'm going to look into this! We're going to go from Nashville to Memphis, so this could be perfect!
