I am moving from LA to DC and am interested in taking US-50 to get there. I've already gone cross-country on I-10 in the winter and just recently went through much of the Southwest on I-40. None of the southern routes interest me for this trip.
My question is if US-50 is going to be safe and is it going to be interesting in winter? I'll be leaving on or around Feb. 22 and plan on picking up US-50 in Grand Junction, CO.
I've heard a lot of good things about US-50 but I am going to have pretty much all my belongings stuffed in my car. If everything of interest is going to be snowed in, if the scenery is going to be bleak, and if things are going to be dangerous maybe I'd be best off just taking I-70 all the way. Thoughts?
Also, what about taking US-93 up to US-50 to I-70 in Nevada and Utah instead of beelining it on I-15 to I-70?
