Rochester, NY to Yellowstone WY.
I am planning a trip for 14 days....3 days to get to Mt. Rushmore, then one more day to get to Yellowstone, staying for 7 nights at Yellowstone Lake Cabins,
Then giving me 3 days to get home to Rochester, NY.
I have driven last summer from Rochester NY. to Key West, FL. and stayed for 8 days, and I love the driving!
I have never been more west than Ohio, so im in for a big adventure!
Any suggestions of places to stop or scenic byways?

Oh Yeah
I'd go direct and use the Ludington-Manitowoc ferry across Lake Michigan. I think ferries are a treat, so I couldn't resist that.
In St Paul, if they are available during your trip, I'd try to get tickets for a live show of Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion -- it's on Saturday nights (although there are only a limited number of live shows each year, and the show is not always done in St Paul, but you might luck out if your timing is right).
In South Dakota, see the Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center at Chamberlain, SD, and learn about the life and culture of these Americans. Also, at Chamberlain, there are some exhibits on Lewis and Clark, who camped in the area. Have a buffalo burger for lunch at Al's Oasis.
Don't miss the Badlands, Crazy Horse Memorial and see Deadwood (and Mt Rushmore, too, of course). If you like touristy things, be sure to visit Wall Drug. Personally, I wouldn't miss spending a few moments at Wounded Knee.
In Wyoming, you might visit the Mueseum of the Mountain Man at Pinedale, Old Trail Town at Cody, and there are many many other old west sites across the state, from South Pass to Devil's Tower. It's old west and westward expansion paradise. The Little Bighorn Battlefield is worth the time, and only a few miles north of your route. Bob
