Default UK 1st Timer... need help with fuel costs..........

    Hi Guys

I am planning a round trip - Toronto - NYC - Wash, DC - Toronto. I have received some great tips on here already, and we fly out next Friday - so I'm getting down to the 'nitty gritty' Using different web sources I have calculated that my hire car (Ford Expedition or similar) will cost US$50 for every 500 miles travelled........ is this realistic / optimistic ??? Also, given the relative economies, should I be filling up on certain side of the border (not sure on US / Canada prices ?)

    Thanks again
    Steven

    Default fill 'er up

Fuel is still cheaper in the USA. Even at the ridiculously high prices there, and with the larger "gallon" measurement in Canada.

Expect anywhere from $1.90 to $2.30 US$ per US GALLON for regular (lowest grade) gasoline.
Expect anywhere from $0.75 to $1.00 Canadian$ per LITRE (approx 3.8 litres to a US gallon).

$50 US per 500 clicks sounds like a safe estimate.

If you pick up your vehicle in Canada, it will be in KILOMETRES not MILES. (although miles will be on the speedometer display as well, just in smaller print & different colour).
