Default US 93 from Idaho to Vegas

Am planning a trip to Vegas from Washington State in April. I am planning on taking Hiway 93 from Idaho to Vegas. Would appreciate any input from anyone who has driven this route.

Default One of the Great Roads in the West

    Mitch,

We have driven that route 2-3 times over the last few years. It is steeped in current and historical western lore. About 30 miles south of the Nevada border is road that goes into the Jarbridge Wilderness. Beyound the stunning beauty and ruggedness of the land -- this is the region that become a hotbed for activists seeking redress against the Federal government over land use issues.

One of the coolest towns in Nevada is Ely. Be sure and take a ride on the old steam engine railroad (http://www.roadtripamerica.com/wheels/elyrr.htm)

Next -- go to Great Basin National Park -- in April you will probably not have too much company -- it is special.

Caliente -- an old gold-hunting town with lots of history. Leave the hwy and head south to Elgin -- amazing canyons with cottonwoods and red rock. At Elgin can take the gravel road back to US 93 (good road) and them down to I-15 and Vegas.

    You will love this drive!
