Default Las Vegas to Chicago : southern route

Hi everyone. I am going to be driving from Vegas to Chicago this week but want to avoid Colorado (montains, snow). I know to go south I need to go through New Mex, Oklahoma, Missouri..anyone have the best, fastest route for me? Thanks for your help.

You can consider backtracking a bit and taking I-15 South to I-40 East. You can stay on 40 all the way out to Memphis, and then take I-55 to Chicago.

My best advice is to check the weather report for Utah and Colorado before you go. If the weather is supposed to be generally clear, or if the temperature in the region isn't very cold, you should just take 15 to 70. This isn't the time of year that the Rockies are notorious for.

    Default I-40 and ice storms

Some of the worst winter weather conditions I have ever driven in happened on I-40 in Texas in November. Only a part of the problem was the weather -- Texas' highway department is not properly equipped or motivated to deal with the yearly snow and ice storms and so depending upon the weather situation in Colorado (where they do have state of the art snow removal crews) I would always recommend I-70 and points east to Chicago.

Thank you both for your input. I will keep my eye on the weather. I'll probably just go 70.

    Appreciate your help.

    Default Plus it is gorgeous

I just drove I-70 thru the Rockies about three weeks ago -- just ahead of the first snow storm of the season -- It is a gorgeous drive.
