Default Milwaukee to Scottsdale trip suggestions

I'm driving from Milwaukee to Scottsdale in 2 weeks, and I'm looking for some interesting suggestions of places to stop and see along the way. It's a round trip itinerary but we're not sure if we're going to use the same route twice. I would love any ideas or tips that anyone can offer.

    Default Denver to Scottsdale

I have a couple of suggestions, depending on how much time you have. 1. Get yourself to Denver then take US-285 SW to Poncha Springs, US-50 to to Montrose, and US-550 to Durango. You will not believe how beautiful that entire route is and, if you're lucky, the aspen will have begun to turn a shimmering golden color by then. On US-50 at Gunnison take the short (less than 20 miles) detour to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. 2. If you are short of time, you can go south from Durango to Gallup then take I-40 to I-17 and I-17 into the Phoenix area. If you have an extra day or two, out of Durango, take US-160 through Monument Valley to US-89. Take US-89 to Flagstaff (with a 60 mile detour to the south rim of the Grand Canyon if you have time). From Flagstaff, take US-89A though Sedona and Jerome to Prescott. From there, you can double back to I-17 and on into Phoenix. That route, too, will leave you awestruck. It's gorgeous. Have a great trip.
