Hi, just starting to plan cross country drive for summer 2002. Looking for web resources or advice to start planning trip...any recomendations ? Looking for offbeat/ and beautiful America.

I too am planning a cross america trip next summer (2002). Just before going back to Uni.
Any suggestions of good routes, points on interest, where to stay, which rental companies to use would be fantastic. Would also love to rent a convertable or soft top jeep for some of the journey - any ideas of cheap places to rent from?
We are from UK and would like to make this a memorable trip!
Plus are there any good events/ festivals along the way - we should be heading off june/july time?
