Thanks so much. We already booked the hotel in Odessa and La Cruces. Longing for the trip next week!

US380 to US60 for example and take in some small towns such as Lincoln and Capitan and stop and look at the VLA (Very large array). Averaging out to roughly 350 mile per day it should still be comfortable enough to enjoy.
Thank you, we would consider getting off the Interstate for a while when it is possible and will try to visit Lincoln and Capitan.

Default Short detour around El Paso, or slightly longer?

As you get near El Paso you could come off at Jct 34 onto the 375 loop which goes around the city on the Woodrow Bean transmountain drive through the Franklin mountains. It adds little time but may give you a chance to get out, stretch your legs and take in the views. You could also consider getting off 1-20 to Pecos and take 285 to Orla then 652 to US180/62 through the Guadalupe mountains and then hook up the 375 loop through the Franklins.

    Have a safe trip !
