  1. Default Las vegas northbound..march 2020

Hi there..2 aussie..ie no icy road experience whatsoever! Planning on a week long road trip northwards out of vegas in the middle of March.
We dont really care where we end up as we will have to fly back to l.a. regardless .
We love your national parks and recently did zion bryce capitol reef monument valley and lake powell!! It was breath taking!!!
Can any one reccomend a scenic trip that takes about 7 days??
We were planning on roadtripping to Montana and yellowstone but we're worried the roads will still be icy or closed.
Any input greatfully recieved and appreciated.

Default Tricky time but can be rewarding.

Hello and welcome to RTA Susi.

During March Yellowstone is still in winter mode and most of the park is closed to traffic so that's not going to be ideal. If you really want to head North you could go through the Great basin and across to the Oregon/California coast and head south but the National parks in the Sierra Nevada (Yosemite and Sequoia) and those along the Cascade range (Lassen volcanic park, Crater lake) would still have limited access and could still see snow and ice. Having said that if the conditions were right (in Yosemite valley for example) they can be spectacular. You could research your options and leave things open to change and decide what to do on the go. Another option would be to head east or south from Vegas and explore and although less chance of poor weather, no garuantees. You don't mention Grand canyon in your previous trip(?) but that could be an option depending on conditions. (It's at high elevation and could see winter conditions) You could visit Petrified forest NP and perhaps Saguaro NP and other Tucson attractions before heading in the direction of Joshua Tree NP and driving into LA so you don't need a seperate flight, plus you may escape one way drop off charges on your car rental as LV to LA (and vice versa) is a popular choice.

If you did find yourself heading into Arizona/New Mexico you will find Ricks book an amazing resource.
