A wildfire has caused a significant closure of Going to the Sun Road within Glacier National Park.

The fire has the road effectively closed throughout the west half of the park - from Logan Pass all the way to Apgar at the foot of Lake McDonald. The fire is currently burning on the Northeast side of Lake McDonald, across the lake from the Lake McDonald Lodge, but the lodge and surrounding area campgrounds have been evacuated and closed - with the Lodge announcing it will remain closed through the remainder of the summer season. No word on if/when the campgrounds and the closed portion of the road will reopen this summer.

Updates on the fire can be found here.

There is also another fire burning threatening the area near Kintla Lake on the Northwest park of the park that is being monitors and could be evacuated in the future.

Additionally, there are now restrictions banning on campfires throughout the park and the hours at the Logan Pass visitor center have been reduced due to the fires.
