  1. Default Mid-Missouri to Estes Park, Colorado

My family is headed to Colorado for a 90 birthday party and plan on traveling I-70. Is they any other good routes? Staying at the YMCA of Estes Park and was wondering if there might be snow at the end of Sept./first of October? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I-70 is the most logical route for being the fastest. There is always the possibility of snow but it's not very likely. When you enter Denver, take I-270 to US-36.

An alternate that will take about an hour longer and avoid Denver traffic would be to take I-29 north out of KC to IA-2. Take that west to NE-2 to US-77 to I-80. Take I-80 to I-76 to Wiggins, then US-34 to Estes Park. This will take you through Big Thompson Canyon, which is a very scenic drive. Depending on exactly where in MO you are, you could take something else to I-80 to avoid KC traffic - one alternate would be US-36 to St. Joe to pick up I-29. You could also take US-36 across KS to something like KS-27 or KS-161 or US-385 to get to US-34.

It all depends on how much time you have - the Interstates will always be quicker.
