  1. Default One-day trip - from San Fran area through Yosemite to Las Vegas

My kids and I are driving from San Francisco to Las Vegas this weekend but would like to drive through Yosemite (probably no time for more than a couple of quick stops) for the scenic view. I'm thinking of taking 120 to Lee Vining, CA then south to Vegas. I realize it will be about a 13-hour trip but there is absolutely no possibility of staying in/near Yosemite due to time constraints. So I would appreciate your feedback on the following:

    1) Is 120 the best option for this trip or can anyone recommend a more attractive route?
    2) I have never driven through Yosemite before, so how dangerous is the drive? I ask because I may need my 18-year-old son to help with the driving.
    3) What would be the highest elevation?

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Welcome to RTA!

I'm really sorry, but the only way to safely drive from SF to LV in one day is via I-5 or CA-99/CA-58/I-15. You do not have time to go through Yosemite, even if you make NO stops.

Thanks, glc! I'll take your advice. Would have loved to have seen Yosemite but safety's first!

Are you sure you can't squeeze out a second day? What about on the return trip?
