Eastern NC to Seattle

I'd certainly use I-90. A lot of online map programs like US-212 because it's shorter, but it takes you through some pretty remote areas, and really doesn't save you any time. Add in the fact that it's winter, and US-212 would not be a fun place to be if a storm popped up, and I-90 would be the obvious choice for me.

Thanks MWM. After research that is what we decided and the article about the Wisconsin couple trapped in their car for 6 days helped sway the decision. 90 still has alot to see along the way as well.

Made it to Montana 681 miles left. We will split this up due to the passes. I have great video I will post once we are complete. This will those that will be on 90 anytime soon.

Assuming I'm thinking of the same incident, the experience of that Wisconsin couple would have been irrelevant to your trip.

The case I'm thinking of from a year or two ago involved a couple that left Yellowstone National Park and attempted to use Beartooth Pass, despite the fact that the highway was marked as closed for winter. Basically, it nearly was another case of "death by GPS," where the couple ignored both maps and road closed signs and blindly followed what the GPS said, right over impassible snow covered roads. (And not surprisingly, they blamed google for their mistake after they were rescued.)

The section of US-212 across western South Dakota and Eastern Montana that is often suggested as a shortcut to I-90 is very different terrain, and is open year round.

Checking the forecasts it looks like you'll be running in rain in the low altitudes which may turn to snow over the passes. Then E Washington may be clear or raining depending on whether you get very far on Monday.

made it to Spokane weather was fairly good. So far trip has been great and I can't believe how beautiful this part of the country is. AMAZED. We have one small leg left to Seattle and Snoqualmie Pass.

Don't relax yet. I've found in my runs to/from Seattle that the most difficult driving is on the interstate in the Seattle area. Heavy traffic, special lanes, local customs......

It's not over until you're safely chocked, shutdown and tied down.

Greetings. We made it to our destination yesterday at 1330. The trip was AMAZING, and I fell in love with the mid west. Given the time of year weather was very cooperative. Thanks again for all that assisted with my preparation. This forum is a very resourceful tool. I will be writing a report at a later date with videos. It may be helpful for those travelling in the future. Now I must prep for two interviews I have in our new home WA State! Safe travels
