I am learning to create video slideshows online, thanks to a workshop session I just attended. So just for fun, and for learning purposes, I am creating videos from this trip. You can watch with your sound turned on, or with the sound off, as it's just music (Pachelbel's Canon - one of my very favorite pieces of serious music).

Here is Part 1, which takes us from Houston's Space Center through Gettysburg. You will find the video on Stupeflix. It runs just short of 5 minutes.

Hopefully, the rest of the trip will follow.

    UPDATE: Stupeflix no longer exists.

Here is the video, Part 2. This goes from northern Wisconsin to the Black Hills of South Dakota. It runs about 4-1/2 minutes, and is accompanied by the same music.

Stupeflix works pretty well. BTW, yes there are a few distant pictures of myself and my husband in both videos.

Part 3 of the Road Trip video goes from the Black Hills of South Dakota, then to Devil's Tower, Little Bighorn, the Beartooth Scenic Highway, into Yellowstone. It is accompanied by the same music, just for consistency, but you can turn your sound off. Also in this one, I experimented with the addition of labeling the photos.

Stupeflix is incredibly easy to learn. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, and the size of your photos, some photo uploads seemingly go very slowly. There are a lot more choices for background music than you'd think, or that I'd used - all royalty free. (You can also upload your own music, but unless you've composed and performed them yourself, you have to be careful with royalties.) I am using the free Stupeflix until I decide whether or not I want to have some of the benefits of membership. One such benefit is the ability to download and save your videos, but that's $5/month to go that route.

The final segment of our 2014 trip, Yellowstone all the way home to San Diego County, is now done and on Stupeflix. Just Click here please! It's also about 5 minutes long, same music, different photos and even a video embedded into it (very short).

There is a nice bypass around downtown El Paso and all the traffic. That will take you up over the Franklin Mountains (two nice overlooks up there too) and down into North El Paso where the road continues as a divided highway around the east side of the city, mostly desert landscape. It rejoins I-10 at Exit 44 and you are already past most of the city and ready for open country driving again.

If Carlsbad Caverns is on your itinerary, you can exit at Route 62 off the bypass and shortcut over there. It is also a scenic and open stretch of road.
