    Default A 'few'.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

Some places that spring to mind close to your circular route would be Wind Cave NP, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, [on-going project] Bighorn National Forest and Canyon. You should drive the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge into Yellowstone and take time to explore the Grand Tetons. After that there is Flaming Gorge Res, Dinosaur NM and after having selected from them, if you feel you have time remaining you could look at heading to Montrose, south of Colorado NM and driving along US50 to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Currecanti Rec area and over Monarch pass to Poncha Springs. Headin North you could go through the Historic town of Leadville and from Dillon Res take US6 over Loveland pass before linking back up with I70.

There are many other options, but that should keep you occupied for now !

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

The first recommendation I'd have is that there is a whole lot more to the Black Hills area than just Mt. Rushmore. Custer State Park is a magnificent place to get up close with nature. There is also Jewel and Wind Caves, and really much more in the area to explore.

Also in Western South Dakota, the Badlands are one of my favorite places to visit, and certainly worth the detour on this trip. You might also potentially look at the Sand Hills of Northern Nebraska, which could be on your way.

Between the Black Hills and Yellowstone, you might consider stopping at the Little Bighorn Battlefield, and I'd certainly enter Yellowstone via the Beartooth Highway.

And heading back to Colorado, the Grand Tetons would be an obvious stop, but there are also some other parks in Northern Utah and Colorado to consider like Flaming Gorge and Dinosaur National Monument.
