  1. Default San Francisco to Las Vegas

    Good evening

I have been reading some of the great threads on driving from SF to LV and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on driving this route in late February as I understand a lot of the country park roads could be closed. I would be interested going via Napa to Sacramento then across to route 395

We would aim to arrive in SF on a weekend (from Hong Kong) then take a few days driving to LV with the aim of being there on the Thursday at the latest. We would then drive back to SF hopefully taking 2-3 days for this as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

In late February, you will have to go through Lake Tahoe or Reno to get to 395. I-80, US-50, and CA-88 should be open, but CA-89 (between CA-88 and US-395), CA-4, CA-108, and CA-120 will still be closed till spring. The other option is go south through Bakersfield and take CA-58 to get to LV.

You will need to check on conditions before you go, because it's always possible for a snowstorm to temporarily close any of the mentioned passes - or chain laws may be in effect. The Caltrans website will have up to date conditions.
