I found this picture of the terrain around Hyder, Alaska.
I rode through Stewart, B.C. on the way to Hyder.
From ground level I did not fully realize how remote this area really is!
What do you get for completing the a 49 state ride?
You get a certification, a pin and a lot of great memories.
I received my certification yesterday. I have been looking forward to this one.
After that ride you deserve an "Iron Butt" award for sure !!
Steve, Great wording on the award certificate -- I wonder how many have actually earned that commendation?
I did some checking and I was surprised to see that more riders had done the 49 state ride than the 48 state.
The first IBA 48 state ride was done in 1989. At this time 62 riders have done that trip. About 3 per year.
The first IBA 49 state ride was done in 1998. 90 riders have completed that trip. An average of 7.5 per year.
A few more pictures from the trip - The corners.

Congrats on a your success!
I turned 50 this year and would like to make this trip. It will take much longer, since I haven't gotten the Iron Butt bug yet. What are your thoughts about sharing the gps route?
