  1. Default Idea's??? LA to San Diego

Hi, I'm planning a 3 week holiday. Flying into LA, traveling by car to SF and down the West coast to LA and San Diego. Plan to stay 3 nights in big cities (is that enough??), but have no idea were we should stop and stay the remainder of the journey. Any ideas on great sites and things to do would be really appreciated. Have goggled every possibility of others idea's and as yet have had no joy. Want to make sure we get the most out of a once in a life time opportunity.
    Many thanks

    Default Joy?

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

To answer your title question: Pretty much everywhere between Los Angeles and San Diego is built up with the exception of the Camp Pendleton area - but that's a Marine Corps training area and you will be restricted to traveling on I-5. But worth a side trip is the Mission of San Juan Capistrano in the town of the same name. If "we" includes children, then Legoland in Carlsbad is a good day long activity. And in San Diego itself, there are the many attractions and museums of Balboa Park.

Between Los Angeles and San Francisco there is, of course, the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH, CA-1) which is replete with scenic and just plain interesting stops including the Hearst Mansion, several scenic state parks, and a number of sea mammal rookeries just off the highway. In Monterey/Carmel at the northern end of Big Sur are historic walking tours, the Monterey Aquarium, 17 Mile Drive, and Pebble Beach.

How much time to spend in the cities is entirely up to you. You could easily spend a week in each of the three that you listed and still only scratch the surface.
