  1. Default Trip from oklahoma city to grand canyon with 2 toddlers!

We have a week in early december where my husband and i have decided we would like to take a road trip to the south rim and would like to know if this is a nice time to visit and also how we should plan our trip. Our kids are 3 and 2 yrs old and we were wondering if there are any places that the kids would particularly enjoy.

    Default Things to Know

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

The South Rim of the Grand Canyon 'sits' at an elevation of around 7,000 feet, and so can turn quite cold and snowy in December. But if you are prepared for the weather and can wait out any fog or snowstorm, then you will be rewarded with far smaller crowds and dramatic views unavailable to the summer visitors. Besides the Canyon itself, some local attractions that your kids might enjoy are the Lowell Observatory where Pluto was discovered, the Museum of Northern Arizona with its excellent collection of Indian and geologic artifacts, Walnut Canyon which has ancient Indian ruins that are accessible by a short hike (and many steps), and Meteor Crater where a large meteorite hit the Earth about 50,000 years ago.
