Been researching this alot and i get conflicting information on certain things. I have been reading the site for a while and thought it time to register and ask my questions.
Me and 3 mates are 21 and are flying in to New York on the 30th of june this year. We plan to buy a car in Washington (greyhounding it to DC) and use it to travel as far round as possible with the driving duties shared out. So it shouldnt be too bad.
Ive never been to america and im really looking forward! Really cant wait!
But some questions bother me.
I know that my british licence is fine for america, as long as i bring both the plastic card and paper sections of it.
Its the acctual BUYING of the car that gets me. mainly can we buy one, legally and get insurance for 3 months rather than a year?
Doesnt the car need to be registered with an address like british cars, and if so couldnt i register it will the hostel im in as they will have my details? and then selling it afterwards? is that a big problem?
ive looked in to renting a car but its very expensive even if i can find companies to do it as we are 21.
Im really looking forward to the trip, meeting loads of new people so i hope its a do-able project. we are not new to backpacking and have been to many places, so thats not a problem.
Thanks very much guys for any help and maybe i will drive past you in the summer??!?!?!
Cheers , Mr Lovejoy
