  1. Default First post, first road trip!

Hello Experts! My husband and I will be driving, with our 3 kids, from Chicago, IL. to Washington, D.C. at the end of the month. We are planning on stopping for one night, to break up the trip. It looks like Cleveland, OH is the halfway point. Is Cleveland our best option? I'd appreciate ANY tips or advice you may have to share. Thanks!

If you are taking the toll roads, I'd recommend Youngstown instead of Cleveland. There are reasonably priced chain hotels at the Niles exit (SR46) on I-80 just after you get off the toll road.

Have you considered taking I-65 to Indy then I-70 across to save on tolls? If you do that, you can take I-79 south to I-68, which is a very scenic Interstate. This will virtually eliminate tolls. If you do go this way, a good overnight stop would be around Zanesville, OH.

I always recommend hotels in rural areas or smaller towns instead of big cities - generally cheaper, in safer areas, and less traffic hassles getting in or out in rush hour.
