  1. Default New York to San Francisco

    Hello everyone,

I'm planning a road trip from New York to San Francisco with my roommate. We've got three weeks and we'd like to see as much as we can on the way. Out idea at the moment is to drive through Chicago, through some of the National Parks into California and then back...somehow. Not sure of the return route yet. Any recommendations? Is this plan even feasible?

Additionally, if you know of any inexpensive, relatively clean & safe places to stay please do tell.

Certainly a trip like this is feasable, you just have to lay the ground work to make it a reality. Since you've got the whole country at your disposal, there's really no way yet for anyone else to nail down where you should go. Sit down with your roommate and come up with some places you'd like to go, come up with a rough idea of a route, a budget, and how you'd like to travel (lodging, amount of driving in a day, backroads or interstates, etc) and then see what you come up with. Once you've got the basics, then you can start filling in the gaps, and plotting the details.
