  1. Default Montana in March/April

We're planning a trip up the Pacific Coast to Seattle in March, then turning right. We'll be driving from either Spokane or Sandpoint in Idaho to Missoula, and by then it'll probaby be the first week of April. We wondered if we could drive the route on Highway 2 via Kalispell, which will be much more interesting, or if we should plan to play safe and take I-90.

I've never been to that part of the States and it's a long time since my wife was there. Any advice on what we might expect at that time of year?

    Default Other Roads

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Yes, US-2 is actually a great road, especially across northwestern Montana, but there are other roads in the area that are just as scenic and would do a far better job of getting you to Missoula. Take a look at the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway and then MT-200 down through the Kaniksu and Lolo National Forests. Going that way only adds about 25% to your overall mileage, and would be a great alternative to I-90.

Thanks for that. I'll definitely check those out.
