Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Washington to Nashville could be driven in as little as a day and a half, so three to four is a luxury which should allow you to wander off the main road a bit. Yes, I-66, I-81 and I-40 are the most efficient highways to use, but Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and other roads offer more leisurely access to some of the mountains and hollers you'd otherwise just pass by. Notable stops along the way include various commercial caverns in northern Virginia, Monticello outside Charlottesville, Lexington, several famous and not-so-famous Civil War battlefields, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Cumberland Gap.
