Default Denver to West Virginia and back

Hello -- we are leaving late this week our first LONG roadtrip with our sons, 9 & 13 yrs old and my in-laws.

These are our stops as planned so far.

Day 1 - Denver to Kirksville, MO - stay overnight at Grandma's
Day 2 - Kirksville, MO to Springfield, OH
Day 3 - Springfield, OH to Gettysburg, PA with a stop in Pittsburgh for Steeler shopping.
Day 4 - Touring Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Lancaster CO. PA
Day 5 - PA to Burnsville, WV
    Day 6 - 9 - with family in WV
Day 10 - Burnsville, WV to Sharps Chapel, TN
    Day 11 - 14 - with family in TN
Day 15 - Sharps Chapel, TN - Louisville, KY
Day 16 - Louisville, KY to Kirksville, MO
Day 17 - rest in Kirksville, MO
    Day 18 - Kirksville, MO - Denver

I'm wanting opinions on stops for Day 2, 3, 15 & 16. Anything we shouldn't miss in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee or Kentucky?

    Default Too Much, Too

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

Denver to Kirkesville is over 770 miles. That is too much to expect to cover in a day with two small boys and six people in total in a single car. It's more than I would attempt on my own. You then follow with another full day's drive (530 miles) the next day. Remember that these day's are also going to be shorter than normal as you will lose an hour a each day to time zone changes. You've got plenty of time, you should really be looking to use some of it for this portion of the trip rather than getting off on the wrong foot. As far as things to see in the 'east', if Gettysburg is on the agenda then so should Antietem. The Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah Nationalk Park are all worthwhile. Great Smoky National park on the NC/TN border and Mammoth Cave in central Kentucky are definitely worth seeing. As it is, though, you will not have time to see anything between Denver and Kirkesville.
