  1. Default LA to Chicago in May...What's the best route

My girlfriend and I are moving to Chicago in mid-May. I've driven the southerly route before, so would like to go more north through Colorado. We have about 5 to 6 days to do the trip, so would like to get off the beaten path a little bit if possible. Can anyone suggest nice/quaint towns to stop in? Places to stay/eat? Things to see? Would love to hear any route suggestions as well. Thanks!

    Default direct, beaten path

    Welcome to the RTA Forum,

The basic path for this would be I-80 to I-76 to I-70 to I-15, taking you right through Colorado. You could do the whole thing comfortably in 4 days, so you've got a little extra time to work with.

A couple ideas would include detouring off to see any of the number of National Parks along the way. Rocky Mountain, Arches, Bryce, or Zion would be a few of the more popular options.

I-70 through Colorado and Utah is a pretty amazing trip, possibly the most scenic freeway in the world, however, you could also dip down and explore US-50, using that to drive through the heart of the Rockies.
