  1. Default FroPlease help--Detroit to New York City, Boston, Northeast

We are planning a road trip for the first time and desperately need help! We live in the Detroit area and would like to head Northeast to New York City, Boston, Gloucester MA for whale watching, and Portland ME to see seals. We have approximately 7-8 days in the beginning of June for our trip. What would be the best way to head first and the best loop? Any suggestions on other things to see along the way? What is the best whale watch tour and best way to see seals? This is a family trip with kids age 9 and 12. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

Looking at the map, the quickest route to New York City would be about 630 miles, or 12 hours. New York City to Boston is about 230 miles - estimate five hours for this trip. Boston to Gloucester is about an hour, and Gloucester to Portland is roughly two hours.

The easiest route from New York City to Boston would be on I-95 then East on I-90 (Mass Turnpike). The quickest way from Boston to Gloucester is I-93 then MA-128. If you're feeling adventurous, you could also take US-1 to MA-128.

Like the whale watches, there are seal watch tours in Maine that you can take. I did find one provider in Portland, ME at this link.
