  1. Default Our First Cross Country Road Trip

This is my first cross country trip. I'm taking my 98 Corolla from the Boston area to San Diego by way of Washington DC, the Great Smoky Mountains, Little Rock, the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. I need to move due to work, but wish to see some sights along the way. Anything you people recommend seeing along the way? Any help with other information is highly appreciated.

    Thanks again.

Default To See Along the Way

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America Forums!

First, since your car is now 10 years old and has presumably seen many a New England winter, you should get it thorough mechanical inspection with particular attention paid to structural and suspension components. Also, this car is not up to pulling a reasonably sized trailer, so I hope that you're having any furniture shipped.

As for just some highlights of stuff to see: In Philadelphia see Independence Mall and in Washington the National Mall (just don't plan on doing any shopping at either). On the way out of DC, consider taking time for a walk through one of my favorite venues there, Arlington National Cemetery. Then there's the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, Petroglyph National Monument in Albuquerque, and Petrified Forest National Park in northeastern Arizona. As I said, just some highlights.

The Great Midwest, Illinois to be precise

Default Drive Route 66, Philadelphia Sights and Sites

You can pick up Route 66 in Oklahoma City. Get off the interstate for stretches and drive the Mother Road. It is a trip back into time. Stand on the Eagles' corner in Winslow, Arizona and spend a night in Williams.

The interstates run right beside it.

Also, in Philadelphia, check out the USS Brooklyn. A short distance outside the city is Valley Forge. Then there are the two really wonderful gardens: Winterthur and Longwood.

Longwood has indoor gardens and Winterthur that great house full of collections.
