  1. Default Las Vegas to Utah Natl Parks/Grand Canyon

Hello. I'm trying to plan a 10-12 day roadtrip the last week of Oct-first week of November with my parents. We would fly into Vegas, and probably fly out of Denver, CO. Would like to see the following:

    Hoover Dam
Grand Canyon - either North or South Rim
    Zion National Park
    Bryce Canyon National Park
    Arches National Park
    I-70 thru Colorado
    Rocky Mountain State Park

Does anyone have any scenic route plan ideas?
Should I plan on visiting the North or South Rim of the Canyon that time of year? North Rim looks like it would be alot shorter to get to from Utah.

Are there any other national parks worth seeing along the way?

How many days should I plan on at each park?

Is there still time to make reservations at the park's lodges?

I would appreciate any advice you have - this is fairly new to me.

    Thanks! AJ2007

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

You are correct in your assessment that the North Rim is easier to get to from Utah than the South Rim - it is quite a drive around that Canyon! One thing at this time of year I would start to be concerning myself with is the weather. To quote the NPS web site: "The road from Jacob Lake to the North Rim (Highway 67) is subject to closure due to snow from mid-October to mid-May."

Most likely, you won't run into anything severe, but it is best to be prepared for that possibility. You may want to take a look at this page for some advice.

I would check with each park's lodging service now to see if there are still openings for that time of year. It is the off-season, so you may get lucky.

You have given yourself plenty of time to make this trip, and I'm sure some of our other regular posters will be able to give you a good scenic drive or two in the area. As it stands, what is your planned route at this point?

  3. Default Planned Route

Nothing is set in stone. Route 93 to the Hoover Dam first, then go north up route 169 to I-15 north to Zion NP, Alt 89 and Route 67 down to the north rim, then back up Route 67 and Alternate 89 to get to Bryce Canyon. Would like to know the best scenic route to get from Bryce Canyon to Arches National Park. After that head up to I-70 east to Denver, CO. This is subject to change depending on what input I receive from other more experience travelers.
