  1. Default NY-SFO 2 week trip GOOGLE EARTH help

I'm coming from UK to USA to do a 2 week solo road trip NY-SFO. Much of the info I've gleaned from others' excellent posts, but:

    1. Is there a link somewhere to an GOOGLE EARTH file which I can use to map the route? As it stands I've put in the airport codes and its mapped out a route, but as you'd expect its the freeways.

    any help appreciated.

ps: i presume 2 weeks is a reasonable enough time frame?

    Welcome to the RTA Forum

I don't think Google Earth is all that user friendly when it comes to mapping road trip routes. The online programs, like google maps or mapquest are far easier to use and understand.

All of them are going to default to the freeways because they are the fastest route. But mapquest does have an "avoid highways" option, and google lets you drag and drop your route onto alternate highways. Of course, nothing will be paper maps to really find the backroads.

It takes about 5-7 days to drive coast to coast, so 2 weeks should give you time to do a fair amount of sightseeing along the way.
