  1. Default 22 Hour road trip with a 1 year old....ADVICE?

My Hubby and I are leaving Wednesday or Thursday this week for Newport Oregon (Gramma and Grampas!) from Colorado Springs, CO. The trip is just a little over 22 hours. We have a very rambunctious 1 year old and are excited and very, very nervous about him screaming half the trip because of the restraints. We have a lot of food, a lot of toys, and even invested in a little over the seat DVD player....anybody have any other advice for us? We are also unsure of wether we should leave late Wednesday night and straight through (obviously with a lot of stops :) or if it's better to spread the trip over 2 days and get a motel for the night.
Anybody else done this before? Your advice is very welcome!!!

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

The one thing I can say with absolute certainty is that you shouldn't try to drive this straight through - and That would be true even if you didn't have the child. You're looking at a 1400 mile trip. While a computer program might say you can do the trip in 22 hours, under idea conditions, you'll almost certainly be on the road for more than 24 hours.

And you are traveling with a small child, which means you aren't going to be under ideal conditions, you are going to be in a situation where you will have to be making far more stops than you would have to under a typical speed run situation.

Ideally, you would actually make this trip in 3 days. You'd still be on the road for 8+ hours a day, and that would really give you the time to have an enjoyable trip. Even over two days, you're are going to be looking at a very grueling grind that will have you pushing your physical limits, and will have you very close to exhaustion by the time you get to grandma and grandpa's house.
