We are a large family with children aged 8-18. We are setting out from LA
in a RV Circular Route :
LA - Grand Canyon Southern Rim - Bryce/Zion - Las Vegas
- Yosemite - Napa - San Francisco - Big Sur - San Luis Obispo - LA
1) What are MUST SEE sites? We are looking more for natural beauty, educational experiences and unique atmosphere, our current list:
GRAND CANYON - Anybody try the Grand Canyon Railroad - is it a special scenic trip or just another train ride?
BRYCE AND ZION - Are private cars allowed?
LAS VEGAS STRIP - What are most impressive Hotels? Will children be allowed in?
HOOVER DAM - is it interesting?
YOSEMITE - best spots/short walks for 2 days?
SAN FRANCISCO - Streets, Cable Cars, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, what else
BIG SUR - Best stops?
LOS ANGELES - What to see? (but not Disneyland et al)
Please recommend vantage points or special experiences,
we'd like to avoid amusement parks, zoos, kitsch - we are into nature, technology, culture and history - in that order.
2) Need Best routes :
LOS ANGELES TO GRAND CANYON SOUTH RIM - TAKING 2-3 days
Would like to see special desert landscape, scenery and native indian culture.
LAS VEGAS TO SONOMA THROUGH YOSEMITE - BUT NOT THROUGH DEATH VALLEY. Any recommended Ghost towns?
3) RV PARKS en Route - Recommendations for Family Rv parks with good facilities appreciated. Full hookups, Greenery, wide sites and a pool would be nice.
