Florida to Las Vegas I-10 or I-40??

Hi I am driving from Gainesville, FL to Las Vegas, NV next week. Which route should I take out there, I-10 or I-40??? I am trying to get there as quickly as possible so there won't be anytime for anything other than rest stops. My main concerns are 1) Which route will get me there quicker?? 2) Which road has the easier terrain to drive on?? Thank you very much!!

The I-40 route is maybe a hundred miles shorter. Nether route encounters any serious mountain driving while both encounter a few large cities that will slow you down a bit. I 40 gets the nod, but not by much.

We got stopped three times on the I-10 by the border control people. Was fun the first time, boring the second time and outright annoying the third time. If you're in a rush you can do without that.

I'm not sure if this would save time or not, but consider these options:

I 10 to Houston.
I 45 to Dallas.
I 20 south of Dallas to Hwy 287 South of Fort Worth (or you can catch Hwy 287 in Corsicana south and skip Dallas all together.)
Then pickup I 40 in Amarillo.

Another version is I 10 to Lafayette, LA
I 49 to Shreveport
I 20 to Hwy 287 in Fort Worth
Then 287 to I 40 in Amarillo.

That one gives you a chance to see some of the Gulf Coast and some parts further north. I vote heading north to Shreveport and then over to Dallas. I know I'm partial to Shreveport, but it's a much easier route than heading through Houston. Nothing against Houston, Shreveport's just a lot smaller and easier to navigate.
