    Default Howdy!

Browse around and learn all you can. Then, when you've got a better handle on what you want to see and where you'd like to go, ask a bunch of questions and we'll be sure to help!

    Default Route plan

I think it's a good idea to let somebody know what your general route plan is going to be, and to check in with that person every couple of days.

This has definitely gotten a lot easier since cell phone service has become so widespread.

I don't think you are a teenager -- but you might read these tips, as they work for adventuers of any age...

The problem with I-70 is that the stretch from St. Louis Thru Kansas, or some 550 miles of I-70 is quite boring. It gets scenic in Colorado but then deviates into Utah before getting into Salt Lake City. Is another route to Salt Lake City through Colorado more scenic. Hod do I hit some national parks?

    Default Personally....

I have found that the best things to bring with me (besides a credit card and a fair bit of cash) is simply the willingness to have an adventure. Yes, if all you do is sit in the car and drive mile after mile after mile, things can get quite boring. But we have a saying around here: There are no boring places (including roads). Every major road in America offers worthwhile stops every couple of hours. And you usually have your choice of two or three major routes that differ only by a relatively few miles and maybe an hour or two over a trip of this length.

But before we can offer you any specific advice for your trip, we would need to know a few things:

    1) Actual start and end points: your route from somewhere, WV to Flagstaff would be distinctly different from the route to Tucson.

    2) How much time you have: The more the better; Wheeling to Phoenix, for example, is four days minimum with no major stops.

    3) What your interests are: Not only so we can point out what you would find interesting, but so that we can offer suggestions for minor detours with big payoffs.

    4) What your comfort level and experience is in driving long distances over multiple days, as this affects everything else I've already said.

We look forward to helping you out. We enjoy being of service. But you'll get out of this trip in proportion to what you put in.

The original post was mid-Sept and didn't say when she was going on the road.
