  1. Default Estes Park, Colorado

A group of RVer friends are planning an 8-day stay at Elk Meadow RV Park. Has anyone been there? Do you have suggestions for what to see/do/where to dine, etc? We will be there in late September 2006.

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! I have been to Estes Park several times, but not recently with a RV. There are several nice boutique restaurants on the main street, but at least one of your meals -- you need to go the Stanley Hotel. Drinks on the veranda with the continental divide in front of you is pretty grand! On Fridays, there is a special tour that leads some credence to the haunting theory!

    Default Around Estes

Welcome aboard the RoadTrip America forum.

Besides the obvious, such as Rocky Mountain National Park and the Stanley Hotel, take the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway down to Black Hawk/Central City for a little gambling. There is a lovely little chapel somewhere along that road on the west side near Lily Lake, but I forget the details. Also be sure to visit Boulder and enjoy the buskers and other activities on the Pearl Street Mall.

Yep, I should have remembed that -- It is the St. Malo Chapel and it is between the towns of Allenspark and Fernclift -- it is built on top of a huge granite boulder with a small pond in the foreground. The scenic drive is about 55 miles long and will take about two hours to drive.

There is also a scenic drive that puts one within about 130 vertical feet of the top of Mt. Evans. Basically you take CO-203 south from Idaho Springs to CO-5 to the parking area.
